Helford River and St Anthony
You can park at the New Inn and do the circuit, or you can park in Helford Car Park and call in at the New Inn on your walk for refreshments.
Starting at Helford car park, take the coast path towards the mouth of the river. You will follow the south bank of the river. When you get to Dennis Head, either explore the archaeology of the Iron Age fort, or view the remnants of one of the last Royalist forts to fall in the Civil War, or cut south down to the charming hamlet of St Anthony. The church is worth a visit – it’s lit by candlelight alone.
Follow the road along the banks of Gillan creek heading south easterly, and when you reach a little bay with moored boats you can either take the footpath up to your right, or carry on along the road. Either way you will end up in Manaccan where you can enjoy a rest and resfreshments at the New Inn.
To get back to Helford, walk up the hill past the school, and take the footpath to your left before the council houses. This path will take you down through the woods back to Helford.
